Hurricane Katia

On the afternoon of Monday 12 September 2011 the remains of Hurricane Katia hit the north of England and the south of Scotland. The strong winds ripped fences down and pulled branches off trees. More major damage has also been recorded in our area such as power cuts, trees falling on railways and buildings falling down! Unfortunately one person was killed under a falling tree near Barnard Castle.
On the left you can see image from the 'Met Office' of where the hurricane hit. Yellow means to be aware and Orange means be prepared.
